How to Build a Mass Mailing List on Facebook
Recently I received a message from a girl whom I did not know, asking me to donate money to an organization that I have never heard of through a mass mail message about a group that I never joined. How did her e-mail get into my Inbox??
After some digging around I realized what I thought was a group was actually the name of a Facebook event for this social media savvy girl’s charitable cause. Then it dawned on me… Members of an event become members simply by receiving an invitation. The administrator of the event has the power to email by the following criteria:
- All
- Attending
- Maybe Attending
- Not Yet Replied
You can see how an event might be a great way to spread word to all your friends without having to convince them to join your group or fan page. Now listen closely because here is the greatest part. Your friends can invite all their friends to your event. In an open invitation event they must only RSVP (any option: attending, maybe attending, or even not attending) and then can click on the words “Invite People to Come.” This way your 500+ invites are then augmented by your friends invites, and maybe even the invites of their friends as well! Pretty soon, you have a mailing list of thousands.
Some closing words. Remember that this list of contacts only lasts as long as your event. You can set your end date for the year 2999 but an ethical and smart business person will not use this as a spam tool. Instead, use the event tool for one thing only – events. An event happens and then it is finished whether that be a promotion, a fundraiser, or a physical gathering. On the contrary, creating multiple events with fresh and new ideas is a great way to generate buzz and a real interest for your cause.
