Any monkey can blogA lot of people have said to me, “You want me to blog? That sounds time consuming… and who’s going to read it? Doesn’t sound very [profitable, worth it, necessary] to me.”

I want to take a second to brag on bloggers.

Thank You!

Your unselfish work and insight to your loyal subscribers is appreciated more than you could ever know!

Bloggers do have a hard job. They write without expectation of salary or insurance benefits, but yet they write with passion. So what profitith a man… to blog?

Well let me see: credability, exposure, publicity, a resume builder, huge networking potential, insight from readers, respect in your profession/genre/community… the list could go on. Starting a blog is especially useful if you are an upstart business owner looking to be known as an expert in your field. Sure, you can write white papers and books, but how long do those take to compose, format, print & distribute? Weeks? Months? A year!? A blog is informal, and immediate. It also keeps you in the forefront of your subscribers minds. Talk about advertising potential!

I had a friend ask me, “Why would I share my work for free? Won’t I lose business?”

The Answer: I subscribe to blogs where designers post graphics, wallpapers, professional looking icons, etc….all free. I subscribe to blogs where web designers post code for complicated and useful program apps…also free. I even read blogs from marketers giving away their best ‘trade secret’ tips on marketing! Yep – free.  The trick is that the average reader will not make full use of this information on their own. The more useful content you can provide, the more effective your blog will be at drawing in seekers. In the end, those requiring services would still rather pay the professional to take care of their need because you will obviously do it better!

I hope this encourages you nay-sayers to put fingers to keyboard and hop on the blog-bus… so to speak. If you have had great experiences with your blog, I would love to read your comments below. Thanks for reading!
